Gran Turismo 7 receives a surprise second update just a week after the last patch, as Polyphony Digital rolls out version 1.66 with a concise set of fixes and balance changes.
The download sizes vary by platform, clocking in at just under 415 MB on PlayStation 4 and a little over 1 GB on PlayStation 5. The bigger footprint on PS5 is likely due to adjustments tied to the Power Pack DLC, which remains a focal point of this update cycle.
Even though the official patch notes list only four items, there is one standout change with potential global impact. Under the physics section, manual gear shifters will ignore downshift inputs when the engine is operating at extremely high RPM. In practice, this technique is familiar to some time trial participants, who use rapid downshifts to aid deceleration for certain vehicles. Our quick tests suggest that, at least with paddle shifters, this change curbs the ability to repeatedly downshift, though you can still push the engine toward redline.
Beyond this, the physics adjustments touch a small group of vehicles, including the three Jaguar VGTs, the Gr.1 Hyundai N2025, the Valkyrie, and the ID.R, with corresponding tweaks to their Performance Point (PP) values.
There are also several global updates. One fixes a Multiplayer/Lobby issue where only a single page of user-created lobbies was visible, regardless of how many actually existed. Another update modifies steering force feedback, though the specific affected controllers and the extent of the change remain unspecified.
On the DLC front, the PS5-sized Power Pack content includes changes intended to rebalance the game. The update notes mention “game balance” and altered rival AI behavior, but stop short of detailed explanations.
Early impressions show PP adjustments across Power Pack vehicles, reflecting changes in power and weight, as well as AI tuning that makes certain races feel notably different. An example is the Willow Springs FF Tuning Battle, where the Rocket-Elantra now presents a more balanced challenge.
Additional Power Pack observations include a refreshed results screen and Sarah’s reintroduction in the intro and at the start of each path. If you were in the middle of an endurance race when the update dropped, you can resume thanks to the automatic, marks-less mid-race save feature, though car configurations may differ slightly from where you left off.
