Intel's Z990 & Z970 Chipsets: LGA-1954 Platform & Nova Lake-S Desktop CPUs (2026)

Get ready for a thrilling tech adventure! Intel is gearing up to unleash its newest chipsets, the Z990 and Z970, designed specifically for the upcoming Nova Lake-S desktop CPUs. This is a major move, and it's got the tech world buzzing.

Intel's roadmap, recently updated, reveals these chipsets as part of the next-gen LGA-1954 platform. While we don't have all the specs yet, the anticipation is building.

One intriguing aspect is Intel's decision not to release the H870 for the Arrow Lake-S series. This has led many to speculate that the Z970 will take its place, continuing the H-class desktop chipset tradition but under a new name.

But here's where it gets controversial... Intel has hinted that the Z970 might share its underlying chipset with the B960. If true, this could mean that the differences between these chipsets are more about firmware and board features than a completely new design.

These chipsets are set to power the Nova Lake-S desktop platform, which Intel has confirmed will be released as the Core Ultra 400S series by the end of 2026. That means we're looking at a late 2026 launch for both the Z990 and Z970, unless Intel surprises us with an earlier release.

So, what do you think? Are you excited about these new chipsets and their potential impact on desktop computing? Or do you have concerns about the potential lack of innovation? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
