Rabbis Lando and Hirsch have taken a firm stand against the recent riots and street clashes with police in Bnei Brak. In a written message issued on Sunday night, Rabbi Dov Lando warned against taking part in or even being near situations where confrontations with law enforcement are escalating. He advised students to stay at their yeshivot, keep to their study schedules, and avoid any engagement that could lead to friction with the authorities.
He emphasized that, beyond the obvious physical danger, participating in such events constitutes a grave spiritual desecration of God’s name. Rabbi Lando’s remarks were complemented by the endorsement of Rabbi Moshe Hillel Hirsch, who joined the call for restraint.
Earlier, Rabbi Yigal Cohen—who has connections with many people in the secular public—released a video condemning the reported assault on female soldiers amid the unrest and offering his apology. Speaking from Thailand, Rabbi Cohen expressed deep distress over the incident and stated that it does not reflect the way of the Torah. He condemned the mistreatment of female soldiers as incompatible with Jewish values.
Rabbi Cohen urged the public not to tar an entire community with the actions of a small minority, stressing that the behavior in question brings dishonor to Torah-observant individuals. He asked for forgiveness for having reached this point and prayed for unity and brotherhood among their people.
