A hot topic at Fenway Fest has been the potential return of Alex Bregman to the Red Sox, despite his absence from the event. With the Red Sox players and coaches scattered around Fenway Park, the question on everyone's mind was whether Bregman would be back for the upcoming season.

Bregman, who opted out of his three-year contract with Boston, has the baseball world wondering about his next move. Red Sox manager Alex Cora put it simply: "The ball is in his court."
Multiple reports suggest Boston has made an aggressive offer, but the club is staying tight-lipped about the specifics. However, the fit between Bregman and the Red Sox was undeniable in 2025, both on and off the field.
"Last year, he exceeded all expectations," Cora said. "He not only met the high standards we set, but he exceeded them. We're just waiting to see what happens next."
But here's where it gets controversial...
While the Red Sox have added key players like Sonny Gray, Johan Oviedo, and Willson Contreras, they haven't signed any Major League free agents this winter. Could this be a sign that they're holding out for Bregman's return?
Lefty Connelly Early, who made a strong MLB debut last season, has been working out at the same facility as Bregman this offseason. He believes Bregman's presence would be invaluable for any team he signs with.
"He's a leader, both on and off the field," Early said. "His work ethic is second to none, and he's always willing to help his teammates improve."
And this is the part most people miss...
Veteran shortstop Trevor Story, who helped recruit Bregman last year, knows the unique appeal of playing for the Red Sox.
"There's a certain magic to playing in Boston," Story said. "The fans, the history, and the opportunity to win it all make it a special place."
The Red Sox are aiming for a deep postseason run after a successful 2025 season. Bregman or a player of his caliber could be the missing piece to achieve that goal.
Red Sox president/CEO Sam Kennedy summed it up: "Our fans deserve nothing less than a World Series championship. We've tasted it before, and we want to give our fans more."
So, will Bregman return to the Red Sox? Only time will tell. The curiosity will linger until an official announcement is made.
Cora urges fans to be patient, reminding them that the offseason is not over yet.
"We've seen big moves happen even at the last minute," Cora said. "We're hopeful and optimistic that we can make it work."
